The Hollow Court
“We have time.”

Once, the most advanced civilization the world had produced. Now, its remainder: preserved, brilliant, and cold. The Court kept its minds, its laws, and its libraries, and lost warmth, sensation, and the passage of time. They are not mindless dead. They are patient in a way the living find difficult to look at.
The Court does not hate the other powers. It has very long plans. It will lose battles to win wars no one else has realized are being fought — and it believes that only it has the time, and the perspective, to save the world at all.
Bone, brass, and deep blue. Libraries lit by cold flame. Masks worn not to hide, but because their faces no longer move.
