Poisoned without being dead. Overgrown without being wild. The Hollow Court came east after the world broke and moved into cities of black stone that were old before their own civilization was young. They repaired what they could, and lit cold lanterns in halls carved by hands no record remembers.

Their courtiers wear masks. Not to hide, it is said, but because their faces no longer move.
