The hollowed did not rise from graves. They were kept — essence anchored against ending in the catastrophe that named them. They speak, reason, keep law and library both, and honor their agreements more reliably than most of the living.

Do not mistake dignity for warmth. A courtier of the East can wait out your grandchildren without noticing the time pass.
